Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping one’s mouth clean and free of disease and other problems (e.g.bad breath) by regular brushing of the teeth (dental hygiene) and cleaning between the teeth. It is important that oral hygiene be carried out on a regular basis to enable prevention of dental disease and bad breath. The most common types of dental disease are tooth decay (cavities, dental caries) and gum diseases, including gingivitis, and periodontitis.
DENTAL PROHYLAXIS IS TRADITIONALLY PEROFMED IN THIS ORDER:
1 Removal of calculus whith hand instruments and scalers, which may be painful and invasive and scratch dental and implants surfaces.
2 Polishing with rotary rubber cups and brushes, which is time-consuming and often messy. Many areas cannot be reached and the gingiva will be affected mechanically.Dental hygienists and assistants know that traditional cleaning can be a painful experience. For this reason, patients may not return for follow-up appointments. Now, almost fifty years later it is time for change.
GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY IS THE NEW AND STATE-OF-THE – ART APPROACH
1 Before removal the biofilm is always disclosed with a dye solution. Then biofilm and young calculus are easily removed with AIRFLOW and PERIOFLOW – supra and subgingivally.
2 If needed this is followed by debridement with PIEZON PS NO PAIN piezoceramic instruments.
Guided Biofilm Therapy means that the clinician is guided by the disclosed biofilm during profesional tooth cleaning procedures.
Guided Biofilm Therapy is truly minimally invasive and reduces the need of hand and sonic/ultrasonic instrumentation. It is safe, effective and gentle to teeth and soft tissues, implants and restoratives.
GBT is also very comfortable for patients and practitioners. It is efficients and time saving. This also applies to primary caries and perio prevention in children and teenagers.
GBT is part of coprehensive preventive concept – to preserve your patients’ oral health – and to make the patients feel good.
GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY is based on the clinically proven tehnologies invented by EMS. The high- tech erythritol-based AIRFLOW powder PLUS whith a particle size of only 14micron. Due to the small particle size of the product, especially the PLUS powder, there is practically no traumatic gingivitis anymore.
Erythritol Plus powder has the finest particle size (14microns) used in dentistry, much finer than the paste used to polish your teeth. It is more thorough and comfortable and gentler on tooth surfaces than traditional methods resulting in less bleeding and sensitivity.
The Swiss-made EMS AIR FLOW Prophylaxis Master is the best engineered AIR FLOW device available.
General guidelines suggest brushing twice a day: after breakfast and before going to bed, but ideally the mouth would be cleaned after every meal. Cleaning between the teeth is called interdental cleaning and is as important as tooth brushing. This is because a toothbrush cannot reach between the teth and therefore only removes about 50% of plaque from the surface of the teeth, including floss and interdental brushes; it is up to each indiviual to choose which tool they prefer to use.
